Hello Class! First of all I want to say thank you to everyone for sending your their input and encouragement, and also for taking out time to read my posts. I wasn’t sure how this was going to turn out, but right now I have to say I am enjoying it…..:) So today I decided to start a new series on care of the skin. It’s a topic practically everyone tries to tackle every once in a while. Having a beautiful skin is every woman’s dream…. actually not just women, men as well. Lol The first step to having a flawless skin is knowing your skin type. When you do know and understand your skin type, then the next step is knowing what you should and shouldn’t do, what products to be used and should be avoided. Im going to give a detailed explanation on the different skin types and how to care for them but I’ll be focusing more on the face as that’s where tends to be more of a problem for most people. According to Dr. Neal Schultz, a Park Avenue dermatologist with over 30 years of practice, he says: “Before picking out products, or before devising your own skin game plan, it’s crucial that we must diagnose our skin type first”. There are 6 basic skin types: 1. NORMAL SKIN 2. OILY SKIN 3. COMBINATION SKIN 4. DRY SKIN 5. SENSITIVE SKIN 6. MATURE SKIN Sometimes there are instances of a combination of 2 or 3 skin types as a result of some factors. Example of other skin types well more of a skin condition, affected by some factors are DAMAGED OR DEHYDRATED SKIN. When it comes to finding out your skin type, the first thing you need to do is forget everything you’ve heard before! What you’ve been taught by cosmetics salespeople, fashion magazines, and even some dermatologists, is likely incorrect, confusing, or designed to simply keep you buying more and more products. There was a time when all we had to do was wash our face, towel dry and apply any form of cream (some people even use vaseline) and they’re good to go. It still works for some though but, for those who dare not apply grease on their faces are not sure what to do. And now we are bombarded with so many products, one is not even sure what to buy. Relax!!! Help is on it’s way lol. From my next post I would be tackling each of these skin types: how to identify them, how to care for them and suggest products that can be used on each and every one of them. Until then, these tips will help your skin stay healthier no matter your skin type. Moisturize your skin no matter what. Using a skin specific product ie made for your skin type. Stay hydrated by drinking at least 8 glasses of water a day. Avoid sunlight and wear a hat and sunglasses. Wash your skin every day, morning and night and “NEVER” wear makeup to bed. Give up Smoking & Alchol (or at least try to cut it down, the effects of Nicotine & Alcohol age and dry out your skin severely).
