First of all, lets talk about oily skin.

How do you recognize it? How you care for it? What are the things you need to know about oily skin.

Most of us are conversant with oily skin as it is very easy to identify due to the production of excess oil (technical term is sebum) that causes shine on the face.

You know you have an oily skin if:

.Your face is shiny, due to the overactive oil glands
.You are prone to acne (pimples) and black heads
.When touched, an oily skin sometimes feels coarse
.Oily skin is characterized with large pores

The good thing about an oily skin is that it retains moisture, making it constantly moisturised. Also people with oily skin tend to show less signs of aging i.e. wrinkles and sagging (what a blessing)

Taking care of an oily skin requires a lot of knowledge and care. I have on many occasions met people complain about their skin and how they’ve used only God know how many products just to take care of it and get rid of acne.

Most times in the process of trying to fix the problem, you make it worse…. Ive seen many situations like that.

When getting products for oily skin, buy products specifically made for oily skin type. You want to stay away from using your body soap on “YOUR FACE”!!!! Mmmmm hmmm *straight face smiley*

Yea I know many of you are guilty of this…. It’s called a body wash guys not a face wash. (Not just for oily skin now, FOR ALL SKIN TYPES).


Tips for Caring for Your Skin

YOU NEED A CLEANSER SPECIFICALLY MADE FOR OILY SKIN: (Most of the time I suggest cleansers with tea tree or basically any product that is oil free. Tea tree oil is a good antibacterial and it helps to prevent acne and also unclog your pores.

A TONER : Witchhazel is excellent for an oily skin. Stay far away from astrigents. The alcohol content in astrigent tend to be really high, it does more damage than good.

The skin is designed to protect itself…. now you use a harsh product on it, stripping off every form of moisture, it tends to protect itself by producing even more oil.

AN EXFOLIATING SCRUB: there are scrubs made for oily skin, you need to exfoliate between 2 – 3 times a week for a healthy skin.

A FACE MASK: to be used once a week

A water based oil free moisturizer

It’s important to regularly give yourself a facial, or go to a professional who can help you to manage your skin type if you suffer from breakouts. That’s when a proper skin evaluation, maintenance and advice can be given.

And of course, you need to drink at least 8 glasses of water a day to stay hydrated, eat lots of fruits, stay away from oily and fatty foods, avoid touching your face ( there are germs everywhere ), if you are addicted to touching your face like me, *covering face* then you need to get yourself lots of hand sanitizers…. I have them scattered in all my bags lol.
