Now.. if you know me.. you’ll know i’m obsessed with Lashes.. I mean.. seriously.. why else would I launch my own range of lashes years ago before owning your own lash brand was the in thing to do.. lol.. *meow* anyhoo!!!!! As I was saying. I’m obsessed and i’ll freely admit it but have you ever wondered why? Simple I HAVE NO LASHES! Hahhahahhah.. I’m not exaggerating. Without falsies I have itsy bitsy lashes. I used to buy Mascaras like they were going out of stock. Every month every new version that was launched i’d be there in the queue picking it up in the vain hope that i’d find that one special product that’d give me length, volume and va va voom (without the clumps!) Over the last few years my love story with Mascara ended. I’d literally wear strips and individuals or nothing at all. But recently I was sent an Inglot Mascara .. and I fell in love all over again. So I went off on a hunt for some new babies to play with. But I wanted to review products that were easily accessible in Nigeria. No point getting hooked onto something I couldn’t get a hold of if i ran out. I was very kindly sent some products to play with by my friends at Inglot, BlackUp and House of Tara and I picked up Maybelline and MAC from our store in Maryland (uh oh.. better not get high on my own supply) And because I love you so much, I volunteered myself to try out these babies.. just for you. (To make sure the tests were fair, I applied two coats of mascara to get an even comparison). Lashless Lola Maybelline Rocket Volum Maybelline Colossal Volum House of Tara False Effect BlackUp Lengthening Volume Inglot False Effect Mascara Lancome Doll Eyes Hypnoise MAC In Extreme Dimension 3D Black Mascara The Bare Truth 7 Mascaras 1 Eye – 2 Coats Each Maybelline Rocket Volum’ Express – Cost: N1,500 Available from My Sacred Beauty and other vendors nationwide Instgram: @mysacredbeauty Facebook: MySacredBeauty Pros: I loved the richness of the black in this mascara. Give good definition and I could see a definite length. The brush is very similar to the MAC Brush but costs alot less. Cons: The mascara is very wet. You need to wipe off the brush a little before applying then it’s fine. Maybelline Colossal Volum’ – Cost: N1,500 Available from The Sacred Beauty Boutique and other vendors nationwide Instgram: @mysacredbeauty Facebook: MySacredBeauty Pros: My lashes were defined and lengthened. This mascara has become a favorite among makeup artists and clients since it was launched in Nigeria and I can see why. It’s great value and does the job. Cons: You need to make sure you don’t apply too much as otherwise it can get clumpy. But I’ve used it on people who have longer lashes than mine and you don’t need to use that much to get a great result. The brush is fuller than the Rocket Volum’ Express, but I guess the bigger the better to get that extra va va voom! House of Tara False Effect Mascara – Cost: N2,100 Available from House of Tara Stores Nationwide Instagram: @houseoftara_intl Facebook: House of Tara Pros: You can really see and feel your lashes lengthening while using this mascara. It’s alot drier than the others because it’s infused with fibers which you can literally see building up your lashes every single stroke. The conical shape was similar to the Lancome Hypnose but just a bit bigger and at less than half the price. Cons: The fibers can sometimes go a bit crazy, you can sometimes get one or two lashes sticking out alot longer than the others. But that’s ok, it was really easy to just pull them off (not my own lashes! lol). BlackUp Lengthening & Volume Mascara – Cost: N4355 Avaiable from Montaigne Place around the country and the BlackUp Store at Ikeja City Mall Instgram: @montaigneplace Facebook: Black-Up-Nigeria Pros: I was really impressed with this mascara. It didn’t clump up and my lashes were separated nicely. Didn’t feel heavy or like I was wearing lots of product even after two coats. Cons: I didn’t really have any complaints about the mascara. The wand wasn’t too bit or too small, it wasn’t too wet or too dry, I guess my only problem is the price.. N4,355 .. it’s a bit akward. Just make it N4,350 or N4,360 instead. LOL Inglot False Effect Mascara – Cost: N4000 (approx) Available from Inglot Nigeria at the Palms VI and Ibadan. Instagram: @inglotnigera Facebook: inglotcosmeticsnigeria Pros: This was the mascara that awakened my love of my own lashes again after such a long time. I used it and my brain woke up like “WOW”.. it was easy to use and came out a really rich black tone. Cons: It can get a bit clumpy if you use too much and the brush is very full so it can sometimes get a little messy touching the skin. I’d say it gave me alot of volume but not as much length. I did like it though but more for a easy to wear daytime look. Lancome Doll Eyes Hypnose – N7,500 I originally bought this mascara in London but you can pick it up at Essenza at The Palms VI Facebook: Essenza Fragrances Pros: The Hypnose Mascara has been one the beauty lists around the world as one of the best mascaras around. They brought out the Doll Eyes version which is super black and meant to give you a wide eye look by fanning out your lashes. The results are.. well.. fab!! Cons: First of all.. it aint cheap.. lol .. Secondly. The brush shape which helps give you sexy wide eyed lashes starts off slim at the top and widens at the bottom. Which seems great at first but then that only worked well for me on my right eye. Because the fullest part of the brush is meant to give you extra volume at the edge of your lashes. When I tried to use it on the other eye I had to turn the brush handle around and it was really akward as I generally apply my mascara on both eyes using the same hand. I had to turn my hand around as well as other wise i’d be applying the fullest part on the inner corner on my left eye! Also, it had a very strong smell. Not an unpleasant one, but i’m super sensitive to scent and it was a little much for me. MAC In Extreme Dimension 3D Black – Cost: N6,000 Available from MAC Cosmetics Nigeria The Palms VI, Ikeja Mall and other locations Website: www.maccosmetics.ng Limited availability at My Sacred Beauty Boutique Pro: I have to say i really love this mascara. It’s so BLACK! the rubber wand is similar to the Rocket Volum’ Express but the product itself isn’t as wet. It gives length and volume and you can use the tip of the wand to separate the lashes to define the lashes and create a spiky look Cons: It’s not cheap. But I can see the value in it. I’ve also found that sometimes if I put too much on if i’m in a rush my eyes get a little stingy. So I take my time when i’m using this product in the morning. So which are your favorite? Are you more of a false lash or a mascara kind of gal (of boy) lol! See you soon! Beauty Report Card: Best Budget vs Luxury Mascaras of 2015 - 7 Mascaras 1 EyeI can honestly say that sometimes it's not the price that matters. The Maybelline and House of Tara Mascaras did a fantastic job especially and are really good value for money. But I can also say that you pay for what you get. I love the MAC and Lancome Mascaras and I can see why they're being raved about on all the major blogs like Vogue, Cosmo and Marie Claire. I've started layering products for a really dramatic look. I combine the Lancome and MAC when i'm going out and my eyes are like "Hellloooooooooooooooooooo Everybody" !!! LOL.. Not exactly the cheapest combination but I use it for impact and on days that I don't want to bother wearing falsies. Can mascara ever replace my love of strip lashes.. probably not.. but I can go around on a daily basis with thicker, longer, darker lashes and just like strip lashes I can choose my look and switch it up when ever I like!Maybelline Colossal Volum’House of Tara False Effect MascaraBlackUp Lengthening & Volume MascaraInglot False Effect MascaraLancome Doll Eyes HypnoseMAC In Extreme Dimension 3D BlackTop Three FavouritesMAC in Extreme Dimension 3DLancome Doll Eyes HypnoseMaybelline Colossal (Best Value)2015-10-303.5Average RatingShare this:TweetShare on TumblrEmailLike this:Like Loading...
